Introducing our new YouTube channel for Google Mobile

By now, some of you may have noticed our new Google Mobile YouTube channel, with a fresh look that includes a video box that rotates along multiple axes (we love the Rubik’s Cube here at Google). As you click on and discover more videos, we hope you’ll have fun checking out all the ways the box can turn.

In our channel’s “featured” section, we highlight some of our mobile search capabilities -- like search by voice, sight, and location -- that really help you take advantage of your phone’s unique technology. Since we understand that these represent new modes of searching for many of you, we’re going to launch some new videos that help illustrate the variety of practical and fun ways that you can use these features. To start with, check out our “Shoot This” series of videos for Google Goggles. Goggles can actually recognize much more than just bar codes and book covers, and these videos really let you take Goggles for a test drive. You can navigate through these videos by clicking on the embedded annotations to fast-forward or rewind.

When looking at “all apps,” you can not only check out any of our latest videos at a glance, but also quickly sort them by mobile platform or by app.
We’ve also made it easier for you to share videos by email or through popular social networking sites.

We hope you enjoy trying out our new Google Mobile YouTube channel. We’ll be adding many more new videos, so please visit youtube.com/googlemobile and subscribe. Also, if you’ve already subscribed to our old channel, note that you need to subscribe to the new one separately.

NetworkedBlogs is basically a Facebook application. It help to promote your blog in many ways. Firstly it uses Facebook platform which is the world's most visited Social Networking website. It has 400 Million active users who send up to 60 million status updates everyday. 3 Billion new photos published everyday and 5 billion pieces of content being shared weekly. An average user spends 55 minutes daily on Facebook. You can see more detailed statics posted by Aden Hepburn at DigitalBuzzBlog. NetworkedBlogs app automatically grab your blog posts once you register your blog into it and then publish your posts to your Facebook Wall, Sydicate it to your twitter account and publish it to any Facebook pages you have created.

Here I am adding a few points that can make you most out of NetworkedBlogs.

Add your blog to NetworkedBlogs directory so others can find it.

Login to your Facebook account, Visit the app's home page and click on button "+ Register a Blog". That will take you to this url.(http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/editblog.php). You will find a form with a few fields. Fill it up with your blog details. Name, URL, Language, Tags and Description, please note that you have to provide a valid RSS/Atom feed then and click next. You will be asked "Are you the author of this blog".

If you click on YES and you are the real author of this blog, you have to varify it. You have 2 options to do that.
  1. Ask from your friends (10 Friends must approve you as a blog owner)
  2. Use NetworkedBlogs widget to verify it. (You need to put a specific code into blog home page)
You can simply skip this step by clicking on "do it later" link or continue verifying your blog. (Recommended). That's done.

Import your feed and push it to the stream for all your friends and fans to see.

This is one of the best ways to promote your blog. Make sure your posts show on your wall and in the news feed of your friends and fans. NetworkedBlogs provides several options to do that. On your blog page, click "Syndication" to enable this feature. And if you have a Facebook page, you can use this feature too through your page's 'edit page' menu. Whenever a new post is publishd at your blog it will automatically published to your wall and it will look like this.
Adopt the best practices. Use a picture in your blog post to promote it in more nice way.

Invite your friends to follow your blogs.

Your friends most likely want to follow your news and read what you write. On yor blog page, click "invite friends to follow".

Add the NetworkedBlogs tab to your profile

Do that from your Facebook profile page as shown below.

Add the NetworkedBlogs widget to your blog.

The widget will allow your readers to follow your blog directly from your blog.

Use the news reader on the app's home page.

Use it to find the latest news, and make sure to vote the good posts up. When you vote on a post, your picture will show next to that post for everyone else to see. You help the best posts get exposure, and people tend to click on pictures of those who recommend good articles to see what else they're up to and might choose to follow your blog as well.

Dive into the ocean with Google Earth for Android

(Cross-posted from Google LatLong)

Especially during the summer months, staring out into the ocean leads to daydreams of sailing the open water, freedom and exploration. Now you can take three-quarters of this vast planet - the ocean - with you on your mobile device by downloading the new Google Earth 1.1 for Android.

With the release of this feature, escape the hustle and bustle of life on land and discover the marine world using Google Earth on your mobile device. Now, you can check out the landscape and terrain in Monterery Bay Canyon, which is larger than the Grand Canyon, by zooming in on Google Earth below the ocean surface just off the coast. Once underwater, we can use the “look around” button to tilt the view and see the extent of this great undersea canyon.

The latest version of Google Earth for Android also introduces the “Explore the Ocean” layer, which features hundreds of photos and videos from more than 100 contributors who are excited to share their stories of sea. Plan your next vacation during your daily commute by clicking on any of the little blue icons. The gold highlighted icons represent content from the Mission Blue Hope Spot initiative.

For those of you running Android 2.2, there are some more treats in store. Google Earth now supports Flash in balloons, so if you have the Flash player installed on your mobile device, you can watch videos right in the balloon. We’ve also made the program easier to navigate; for most devices, you can now use two fingers to “look around” and change your viewpoint, as an alternate to using the on-screen button. This makes it even easier to tilt your view to see mountainous landscapes or underwater canyons. Rotating your view with a simple twist of your fingers is now available on more devices as well.

Google Earth for Android 1.1 is available in Android Market today for most Android devices running version 2.1 or later. Explore the ocean anywhere.

You can get the update from the App Store by searching for ‘Google Mobile App’.

If you have any questions or comments, or if you want to learn more, please visit our help center.

Update 8/24 5:00 PM PST:

  • To ensure you get alerts go to the Settings > Google Accounts panel inside Google Mobile App and switch on the notifications you'd like to receive. If you initially didn't allow Google Mobile App to receive push notifications when prompted, you can enable the feature again in the iOS Settings' application's Notifications panel.

Ban on BlackBerry services will not be implemented in KSA

Saudi Arabia was due to ban the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service in last week, but the Communications and Information Telecommunications Commission (CITC), gave operators until Monday to test servers based with each of the three operators in the country that offers BlackBerry services.

Reuters now cites a source familiar with the talks between the CITC, RIM and the operators as saying that the idea of setting up a server at each of the three local service providers has proved impractical, and that in place RIM has agreed to offer Saudi Arabia's interior ministry and intelligence services the codes to all Saudi BlackBerry users.

The CITC was not available for comment, while RIM referred to an earlier statement that "RIM cooperates with all governments with a consistent standard".

The Iterative Web App: New Stacked Cards Interface for Gmail on iPad.

In April 2009, we announced a new version of Gmail for mobile for iOS and Android. Among the improvements was a complete redesign of the web application's underlying code, which allows us to more rapidly develop and release new features that users have been asking for, as explained in our first post. Today’s topic for the The Iterative Web App, a series where we continue to release features for Gmail for mobile, is the Stacked Cards Interface on the iPad.

When we announced our new interface for Gmail on the iPad, we requested feedback on how we could improve this experience for tablet devices. In June, we responded with a new compose screen. Today, we’re addressing the top feedback by launching a new “stacked card” interface for selecting and managing multiple conversations.

In the past, performing actions on selected conversations was awkward. There were two similar toolbars on the screen: one on the bottom left and the other on the top right. The former affected the selected conversations, while the latter affected the currently open conversation. Since the toolbars’ buttons looked similar, it was easy to mistakenly use the wrong toolbar. Sound confusing? It was.

In the new interface, selected conversations are displayed stacked on the right panel for easy organizing, archiving or deleting. The second toolbar is gone so it’s always clear which conversations you’re working with.

This new interface has also been an opportunity for our team to experiment with CSS3 transitions, which give mobile web applications a similar look and feel to native applications. More details on the implementation are posted on the code blog.

To try the Gmail webapp on the iPad, just go to gmail.com in Safari. For quick access, create a homescreen link. Please note that the new interface is only available in US English for now.

Report a Yahoo Group if it is annoying you

Google groups has provided a very nice and clear system to report a Group but Yahoo sometime is annoying and it is difficult to find the Group abuse report page. Often it happens with me suddenly I start reciving tons of email in my inbox. When I inquire about the sender I came to know these email coming from various mailing groups, mostly Yahoo groups. I have a yahoo identity and I am part of few yahoo groups too, but when I visited my yahoo groups page I don't find myself as a member of group who is sending me bulk emails. This thing really irritating me. When I visit suspected group who is sending me un-necessary email I can't login to that. I have added my multiple ids in my yahoo groups setting so most of the time I transfer my regular group emails to gmail or hotmail becuase I can't bother login to all my mail boxes everyday. This confuses me more at Yahoo groups.

How to Report a Yahoo Group

To report abuse of a Yahoo group please visit the url below.
http://help.yahoo.com/abuse  or  abuse.yahoo.com

You will find a page like this. (click on the image for a larger version)

Select Group Abuse, you will be presented a form where you have to fill out, your contact details, group name, the email you found from group including full header.
After filling out all these details, just sit back and relax. Yahoo customer support team will soon take necessary actions on that and they probably contact you once or twice in case they need more information.

If you have something to ask, please drop me a comment and I'll response back soon. I hope this information will be useful for you.

Google Adsense help requires Macromedia Flash ???

I was just surprised to see name of Macromedia at Google ad-sense help page. They have put some training videos at Google Adsense help page and beside they wrote in brackets (Macromedia Flash required). I was a big fan of Macromedia Software company and I have started using their software back in 2001 at the time of Dreamweaver and Fireworks version 3. Later on probably after Dreamweaver 8 Macromedia has been sold to Adobe systems and its name vanished from everywhere, from the internet, from the Softwares itself and other media sources. I personally thing Macromedia was doing better job than Adobe systems, however still products like Dreamweaver and Fireworks are a great success even though Adobe are handling them.

For now just leave this story aside, my topic is why Google didn't update their help pages, instead of Macromedia, name of  Adobe Flash should be written there. Is Google team is that sleepy that they are not aware of Macromedia's ending or Is there some solid reason behind this to put Macromedia name there. Check the snapshot below. The page is located here.

How To Find An Seo Specialist

Content is King. Search engines love content, especially if it's unique. Build a quality website and become the authority on your niche. You will soon find the traffic flowing in and your servers will be bloating with bandwidth.

SEO Specialist
Search engine directory submissions would rather be a smart decision to make for your marketing business. They are different from the search engine submissions directly. It is effective to have your website registered at Google or any other directory. Keep in mind to question your SEO specialist if they are adding your website to the search engines or the directories.

While one can never be sure about the exact ranking a website will get, there is a certain minimum level that must be ensured by any consultant worth his salt. So, this is our first important question, and if the consultant hesitates in giving a firm answer, you can be sure that you are dealing with someone who doesn't know his business inside out.

An SEO specialist should have a reputation or a good amount of experience in handling optimization of web sites successfully. The specialist should have a record of dealing with different types of design features as well as development languages. Always make it a point to ask for client references and check their portfolio.

You should also inquire the local SEO service providers of what keywords they are going to use for the research. If he or she is specific about the keyword listings regarding your business, look for someone who provides and uses miscellaneous combination of keywords and researching techniques.

A company that is involved in the online world needs to draw more traffic. If this does not happen, then the company is bound to lose money each passing day. But how can this actually be achieved? The services of an SEO specialist must be hired in order to improve the search engine ranking of the company's site. It is also through the help of the SEO specialist that the company can boost the chances of attracting traffic from the search engine going to the site in a natural manner.

Now for writing an advertisement, it is a little different. If you are dealing with Google Adwords, you will already have a set number of keywords that will go into the advertisement. A good SEO specialist will be able to not only format but also write the ad with the correct amount of keywords in it while making it easy to read as well as well as attention grabbing.

When dealing with a professional SEO specialist, you need to make sure that they have done the work they say they have done. Ask your professional SEO consultants if they can show you a report that shows rankings through many search engines for six months. Make sure the report that is shown to you is in a format that you can easily understand. Professional SEO services are not cheap and finances will have to figure into the equation.

If you get your search query report going in your account with Google, then you can really get a feel for what sort of words people are finding a site for in the early phase. Then you can build out the site according to what the market's telling you are high conversion type keywords. Everything I do is focused around buying keywords and going for the conversion.

With these identified an SEO specialist can make suggestions on how to improve your own site optimisation by finding elements that your competitors are doing well with and what they may have missed. This is very important information for your website. They can also recommend amendments to be made to your website such as new content, blogs, change of navigation and also identify what isn't working and how to correct it, this could mean in some cases a site change or update which sounds like a tall order but normally isn't and can dramatically help your traffic increase.

Just speak it: introducing Voice Actions for Android

(cross-posted with the Official Google Blog)

Our mobile phones have become modern-day Swiss Army knives. An Android phone is a handheld computer, a music player, a notepad, a GPS navigation unit and more, all rolled into one sleek device that fits in your pocket. Today’s phones do so many things for us that sometimes we don’t even think about how we do them.

Even though our phones do all these new things, the most natural way of interacting with a phone remains what it always has been: speaking. And to that end, we’re pleased to introduce Voice Actions for Android. Voice Actions are a series of spoken commands that let you control your phone using your voice. Call businesses and contacts, send texts and email, listen to music, browse the web, and complete common tasks, all just by speaking into your phone.

To use Voice Actions, tap the microphone button on the Google search box on your home screen, or press down for a few seconds on the physical search button on your phone to activate the “Speak Now” screen. Let Mike LeBeau, the lead engineer for Voice Actions, show you in this video.

Speak any of these commands to perform a Voice Action on your phone:
  • send text to [contact] [message]
  • listen to [artist/song/album]
  • call [business]
  • call [contact]
  • send email to [contact] [message]
  • go to [website]
  • note to self [note]
  • navigate to [location/business name]
  • directions to [location/business name]
  • map of [location]
And of course, you can still conduct a Google search using your voice.

While we’re at it, we’re also releasing an updated version of the Google search widget for Android. When you type a local search query, like [italian restaurants] you’ll see suggested restaurants with addresses and ratings. Also, as you type queries, you can refine them further by tapping the pencil icon that appears to the right of search suggestions.

Both Voice Actions and the new Google search widget require Android 2.2 (Froyo), and will be pre-installed with the new Droid 2 phone from Motorola and Verizon. Voice Actions are currently available for U.S. English speakers.

If you have another phone with Android 2.2 (like the Nexus One, HTC Evo or the original Droid), you’ll need to download several app updates from Android Market to get all the latest goodness:
  • Voice Search (this app includes Voice Actions)
  • Google Search widget
  • music apps (e.g. Pandora, Last.fm, Rdio, mSpot)
To get started fast, scan the QR codes for these apps below.

We think Voice Actions help you get things done on your phone faster and easier. Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

Instantly zap links, maps and phone numbers to your Android phone with Chrome to Phone!

(Cross-posted from the Google Chrome blog.)

Ever wanted a way to quickly and easily send links and other information from your desktop or laptop to your phone to view on the go? The new Chrome to Phone extension adds a button to your Google Chrome browser that instantly sends the current web page, map, YouTube video, or selected phone number or text to your Android device running Froyo (or Android 2.2).

Suppose you're reading an interesting article on your favorite news website and need to leave for an urgent appointment. Simply click the extension icon in your browser to send the link to your phone and the device's browser will automatically open the link, ready for you to view on the go. Chrome to Phone also works seamlessly with Google Maps. Say you’ve looked up an address or driving directions on your desktop. Clicking the extension icon in your browser will push the information to the Google Maps app on your phone. YouTube videos work the same way with the extension. You can also select a phone number on a web page and send it to the dialer on your phone. Selected text can also be automatically copied from your browser and sent to your Android clipboard for later viewing.

The Chrome to Phone extension is available in English for now, but we hope to expand to other languages soon. Check out the help center if you have further questions. To get Chrome to Phone, install the extension in your Google Chrome browser and the Android application on your phone from Android Market, and you’re ready to go.

Flipping for Gesture Search

You may already be familiar with Gesture Search, our Android app from Google Labs that lets you search by writing out characters on the touchscreen of your device. Today we’re happy to announce a new version, Gesture Search 1.2, which includes a new motion gesture. By doing a “double flip”, or flipping your phone away and then back, you can start Gesture Search at any time. This eliminates the need to activate Gesture Search from a home screen shortcut. You can turn the feature on or adjust its sensitivity in Settings. We’ve also fixed some bugs and improved usability by adding accessibility support. Gesture Search is still in its early stages (as with all things in Google Labs) but we’d love to hear your feedback in the comments below. It is available for Android-powered devices running Android 1.6 and above, and can be downloaded in Android Market.

Update 8/11/10: If you're on an Android-powered device, click here to download Gesture Search. If you're on a computer, go here.

Update 8/19/10: An updated version of Gesture Search has been posted to Android Market, which contains some bug fixes. You can learn more about the double flip update here.

Black Hat Vs. White Hat Types

Black Hat SEO- These are aggressive tactics used to gain high search engines rankings that do not comply with the philosophy of the search engines. Sites produced with black hat SEO techniques are considered unethical spam by most web surfers because they provide no real content or user experience. They basically look like pages of another search engine or paragraphs of jargon containing keywords instead of real content.

The black hats, on the other hand, simply thinks of "How do I get links to the site?" They pay no consideration to whether the links provide value to the visitors and readers. The eventual strategy that emerges usually turns out to be schemes like link farms and reciprocal link schemes.

Black Hat SEO are all about getting fast results. The method they use to optimize their websites will often get the website to the top of the search engines very rapidly, but when the search engines catch-on, the website will very often crash or get banned.

For a while now, there is a battle going on within the Internet among marketers that use SEO. Black Hat SEO is to use optimizing practices to fool the search engines and the use of other traffic generating techniques that are questionable or unethical.

White Hat Optimization- If you're thinking of using an SEO consultancy to help your website get listed well on search engines then ask them a few questions about bad techniques that you've heard of. This will probably be enough for the unethical website optimization company to take the bait whereas a good, ethical SEO consultancy will try to talk you out of it and steer you in the right direction

White Hat SEO remains more time-consuming, but it yields better long-term results and has a more positive impact. People prefer to use web sites they haven't been deceived into visiting, and search engines don't like to list sites which have manipulated their way to a high ranking. Sites using white hatted techniques usually don't have to worry about being removed from search engine results.

The use of keyphrases can also be considered white or black hat as white hat SEO'rs will use keyphases in the natural context of a body of text, if you write your web copy for your visitors and not the search engines you will achieve better results.

White Hat SEO evolves writing good quality content. Don't try to use spammy tricks. Deliver great content to your visitors and the search engines. Don't hide text, or stuff Meta tags with keywords that shouldn't be there. Make sure your title tag and other Meta tags reflect your page.

The Importance of Email Marketing

Why email marketing is critical to online success.

Most of the people who visit your site will never buy. In fact, if your website produces a 1% conversion rate your website is considered successful. In most cases, that means that 99 out of every 100 people who visit your site will leave and never come back… ever.

By offering something of high perceived value absolutely free to your website visitors, in exchange for their name and email address, you can capture a much larger number of people into your marketing system. Where a good conversion rate for a site that is selling something is around 1%, a good ‘opt-in rate’ (the number of people who take up your free offer) is around 20%, and can be as high as 50%! Instead of losing 99 out of 100 people who visit your site, you’re now only losing 50 to 80 people. Or in other words, you’re capturing 20 to 50 people out of every 100 people who visit your site, instead of just one.

Most of the people who visit your site have some interest in what you sell, but for any number of reasons they won’t buy on the spot… they might be researching to buy in the future; they might be looking to buy now but were distracted; or they might be at work and can’t take the required action to buy your product or service… it could be anything. But, if you capture their name and email address, you can send them regular emails with solid information which is of value to them, as well as promotional emails selling your services.

By doing that, you stay in the mind of your prospect, so when they do make the decision to buy, your business it he first they think of. Email marketing is critical in generating the maximum profits from your website visitors.

How Do I Submit My Site To Ask.com

Ask.com is making a come back and getting your site listed in their search engine is well worth the time and effort. Submitting your site into Ask.com is a great way to help you gain more traffic from sources other than Google. It is a good idea to invest time and create strategies on pulling in traffic from multiple sources. If you loose a source but have other sources to fall back on, your site will not suffer from a huge loss in traffic.

Submit Your Site To Ask.com

Before you can submit your site to Ask.com you need to have sitemap.xml.

  • If you use WordPress, you can find information about adding sitemap.xml by visiting this page. If you use Blogger, you can find what you need by visiting this page.
  • Once you have a sitemap.xml file in place you can then submit your sitemap into Ask.com This process is very simple
  • When you have your sitemap.xml in place you can submit your site to Ask.com by opening up your web browser and typing the following address and ping it, you need to replace yousite.com with your URL.

http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A//www.yoursite.com/yourmap.xml
