Mobily announced a new promotion offer for new postpaid subscribers. Which will relax them from monthly fees up to 3 non-consecutive months. This offer also includes a free 1 GB internet package on same criteria. Mobily website didn't clarify this so I called Mobily customer service at 1100.

To avail this offer new postpaid subscriber must have to pay 165 Saudi Riyals initially (100 SR: 1GB bundle fee, 45SR: postpaid activation fee, 20SR: monthly fee for postpaid). The next month subscriber can enjoy benefits provided in this offer and similarly he have to pay for 3rd month and 4th month he can enjoy this offer, then 5th month again paid and 6th month is free.

This offer is good for the people who are serious to use Mobily postpaid subscription. Mobily Khatti and Khatti plus subscribers are eligible for this offer.

Offer Details

New subscribers to postpaid bundles from Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) will get three months free of monthly fees, a vanity number, and 1 gigabyte of internet connectivity for three nonconsecutive months, the company announced on Monday.

The new promotion covers subscribers to the standard postpaid bundles of Khatti and Khatti Plus, as well as the location-based Mada and Dirati, lady’s bundle Nejmah, and Blue Wave, the bundle aimed at Alhilal Club fans.

The Middle East’s fastest-growing mobile and broadband service provider said that the latest promotion is ideal to help new subscribers get a taste of the goodness of Mobily’s services, such as lower on-network rates and the Kingdom’s lowest subscription fees, thus enriching its clients’ lives. They will also get a feel of the sheer joy of broadband internet connectivity as it should be, thanks to Mobily’s highly advanced broadband network, available at 586 town, village, highway and tourist attraction, covering 92% of the Kingdom’s population.

Mobily offers its subscribers a singular rate of 30 halalas per minute, regardless of the recipient’s network. Blue Wave subscribers enjoy the Kingdom’s lowest rate when they call each other: only SAR 1 for every five minutes.

Mobily is always announcing new promotions for its subscribers, which encompass national and international calls, messaging and – a favorite of Mobily’s clients – broadband. Earlier this week, the company launched the “Multiple SIMs” service, which allows subscribers to use up to five SIM cards for a single phone number, which users can configure for various services, such as voice, blackberry and connectivity, and can use on multiple devices simultaneously, doing away with the need to change out SIMs.

We are pleased to offer you mobily Khatty. You will benefit from the lowest monthly fee and still enjoy attractive rates for national calls. It is the easiest mobile plan that you can subscribe to! In addition you can explore the large variety of mobile services offered by mobily

An Even Better Way to Find Places Nearby

With six updates in six months, Google Maps for Android has been getting plenty of new features, both big and small. A continued focus with each update has been on giving you better ways to find places nearby. In the most recent updates, Maps has gotten features like swiping between search results and info like photos, reviews, and more helpful content on the result pages. With today’s launch of Google Maps for mobile 4.4, we’re introducing an even easier way to find places around you: a dedicated Places icon that lets you quickly look up nearby places and pick a place to go using updated Place Pages, just like on your computer.

On Android-powered phones with Google Maps 4.4, you’ll find the new Places icon in the app launcher with the rest of your apps. Press and drag it right onto your home screen to use it when you’re looking for a restaurant, shoe store, movie theater or any other type of local business. You'll get a detailed list of all the nearest places and can choose one to learn more about it on its Place Page.

Search for several convenient types of places with the default categories or add your own for your most frequent searches. You can also use the search bar at the top to type or speak any query. I tend to use the “coffee” search a lot, but I’ve also looked for “gas stations” on the road, “ice cream shops” in my neighborhood, and even specific places like “Chelsea Market” on a recent trip to New York.

Of course, you’ll often want to learn more before deciding where to go. With updated Place Pages, you should be able to find all you need to know about a place, whether you’re wandering into a new restaurant or deciding from your couch. In addition to photos and reviews, Place Pages now have a bunch of new details, such as prices, parking and menu links to inform your quest for the perfect steak. You'll also notice that the search results list now highlights business opening hours in addition to compass direction and distance -- consider it your late night caffeine radar.

Google Maps for mobile 4.4 is available now for Android 1.6 and above. Just search for Google Maps in Market or tap here from your phone. The Place Page and search result updates are coming soon for BlackBerry users so keep an eye out for an update at (from your BlackBerry Browser) or on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

Visit our Help Center to learn more, ask questions in our Help Forum, or give us suggestions and vote on other people’s on the Mobile Product Ideas page.

Update: Google Maps for BlackBerry version 4.4 is now available with the new search results view and Place Page details. From your BlackBerry's Browser, go to to install it now.

Mother is a great gift of god, the gift which is already there for us even before we exist. It starts when we are piece of flush, she starts caring us, and she starts feeding us, protecting us from dangers and troubles. That time we are senseless and we never know if she don't keep us insider her we can't survive. If she refuses us to keep we have no place to go, no place to live.

She makes us grow by providing us blood from insider her body and other needs. She gives us a peaceful place to sleep and eat. At the same time she face troubles in all her daily routines , in walking, in sitting, in eating but still she feels happy to serve us. She faces all these troubles till 9 months for us and also makes kind prayers to God that we remain healthy without any request. Finally she gets hell of pain to make us the part of this world from no existence to existence.

Still her job didn't end, she has to feed us again, and she has to care us more until we can stand up. Again day and night she starts another hard work. Cleaning us, dressing us up, and taking care of our rest and everything we need she do for us without a single penny.

Another period ends and we start walking, that day she become that happy as no one else in this world. After growing us physically now she starts growing us up mentally. She teaches us, she send us to school, she helps us learn things. Again hard work. She listens our stupid things we encounter in the day, she tells us stories so that we can have some entertainment then she makes us sleep in her lap.

Then we start going to school, she take us to school, she brings us back and with the passing time, we feel we have our own identity, who is mother ? She is just a kind servant whose duty is to take care of us. With the time when we finish school and go to college, now mother becomes second priority. We can decide in our matters ourselves, we can go anywhere we want. But she doesn't mind that and keeps giving us same love and care as still we are a kid.

Finally we start our life race, we start earning good money, and we got our own family with a loving life partner and a beautiful house. Mother is now gone far away from our priorities. We become busy and we have to earn, but still she is there for us making prayers. But we are still busy.

One day, she goes, she is no more there for us, we lose our sky who is protecting us from long time ago. Ahhh

She was important, some people realize and some people don't :-)
Take care of your mother if you can, because she is most beautiful relation in this world Allah has created.

My colleague’s mother died yesterday. He is Bangladeshi but still I am feeling pain as it was my mother. Please make prayers for her that Allah gives peace to her soul and patience to my colleague. Ameen.

Mobily raised its profit to 40 % for 2010

I have discussed a little about Mobily here, it is a company that has a good start then it has faced a bad time and now it is growing again. As compared to Zain Saudi Arabia mobily is doing not good enough who got raised his profit to 107 % for last three months period but still it is better from last years.

Mobily announced the 40 % growth in first quarter of the year 2010. These results were announced on June 30, 2010, in which the net profit for the first half of the year amounted to SAR 1,615 million as compared to SAR 1,155 million for the same period of last year.

The net profit for Q2 2010 amounted to SAR 901 million against SAR 675 million for the same quarter of last year, presenting a growth of 33% and compared to a net profit of SAR 714 million for Q1 2010.

The revenues for Q2 2010 amounted to SAR 3,972 million presenting a growth of 24% over the same period of last year. The operating profit for Q2 2010 amounted to SAR 940 against SAR 728 million for the same quarter of last year, presenting an increase of 29%. Earnings per share (EPS) for the first six months of the year amounted to SAR 2.31 compared to SAR 1.65 for the same period of last year.

Mobily’s Chairman, Eng. Abdulaziz Alsaghyir said: “The growth of our Q2 revenues is due to the increase in broadband revenues and attracting more postpaid customers, in addition to the increase in the international interconnection margin, all of which have led to an increase in EBITDA to reach SAR 1,388 million for Q2 2010 as compared to SAR 1,180 million for the first quarter of this year. Our EBITDA for Q2 2009 was SAR 1,130 million. Besides an increase in usage levels and the success of Mobily’s customer loyalty program, Neqaty.”

Alsaghyir added: “Mobily has adopted its strategy for the next five years, known as ‘GED’, standing for Growth, Efficiency and Differentiation, to provide integrated telecom services built around fixed and mobile broadband technologies. The appeal of the telecom sector in Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom’s strategic and economic strength will help Mobily to achieve its goals.”

The Chairman continued that the “Growth” dimension of the new strategy will be led “by growing revenues from broadband and wholesale business, without taking our attention away from the cost of achieving this.” Furthermore, Mobily’s selective investment in Bayanat Al Oula, the Saudi National Fiberoptic Network (SNFN) and its WiMax network which increased competitiveness in the corporate/government segments of the market, will support this growth.

Mobily will improve “Efficiency” through infrastructure sharing, better spectrum utilization and technology optimization, the Chairman said.As for “Differentiation”, said the Chairman, Mobily will delight its customers by excelling in customer service and having the best work environment for employees, as well as delivering innovative products that enrich the lives of both.

The new TGN Gulf Cable System will support and complement Mobily’s existing fibrotic network linking all of the Kingdom’s regions and neighbouring countries, with increased global connectivity and capacity for Internet and data applications. Speeds of up to 1.2 Terabits/second will allow Mobily meeting the growing demand of government and corporate customers. Work on the cable is expected to finish throughout 2011.

At the end of year 2009, Mobily introduced HSPA+ at speeds of 21.6 Megabits/second and have recently completed testing of speeds of 42 Mbps in preparation for initial launch in major cities. Today, Mobily covers over 414 cities, towns and villages, reaching 90% of all populated areas in the Kingdom with its state of the art broadband network.

Faster dialing with Google Voice on Android and Blackberry devices

(Cross-posted with the Google Voice Blog)

At Google we are obsessed with speed. Our mantra is faster = better. This is true for our Google Voice mobile apps as well. When you want to make a call, your phone should connect you as quickly as possible, whether you’re calling via Google Voice or not.

Today we are launching an enhancement to the Google Voice mobile app on Android and Blackberry phones, which makes placing calls much faster. We call this feature “direct access numbers.” Here’s how it works:

Until today, the Google Voice app had to make a request to the Google Voice server every time you wanted to make a call to send us the phone number you wanted to dial. Then the call would be connected via a Google Voice access number. With direct access numbers, we assign a unique phone number to every person you call. This means that we no longer need to use your data network to access the server each time you make a call, so calls will be placed much faster.

The updated Android app is available from Android Market starting today. For Blackberry users, you can download the app by visiting from your mobile device. You will need a valid Google Voice account to use the app, and at this time, Google Voice is available in the US only.

How to Transfer Credit in Mobily

Mobily is the second largest Mobile Network in the Kingdom, from its start to today's date it has provided great services and benifits to customer. When Mobily started its services only STC was operating Mobile Networks in KSA. That time call rates were so higher compared to International standards, International call rates, sms rates and Internet data rates. Mobily has started a the trend of promotion offers and low-call rate packages to mobile users in Saudi Arabia that was never done before, in the result using mobile phone became easier for a lot of middle-class community and a big number of expatriates. Now calling outside the Kingdom is not an expensive deal. Expatriates from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Philpines, Indonesia, Gulf and other arab countries are major mobile users.

Mobily is offering so many services that I can't desribe them all here. Here I would like to show the process of transfering credit from one mobily number to another. Please note that credit transfer is not possible among different operators, however it is possible internationally among different operators (this is because they have signed aggrements)

Transfer credit

All Mobily prepaid active subscribers can independently transfer credit from their mobile to another prepaid customer. Why would someone use a credit transfer?

In many cases you run short of credit while you have to make an emergency long distance call. Sometime you are away from the market and can't go and buy a Mobily voucher easily. In that case you may request any of your friend or family member to transfer you some mobily credit. The same case might happen to your friend or family member anytime and he ask you to transfer some credit to him, So below is the procedure.

How to Set up:

  • The service does not need to be activated, to transfer credit form your number to another one you should follow these steps:
  • Type in your mobile (There are no spaces in between, I put here spaces for the sake of understanding)
  • *123*( the mobile number where you want to send credit ) * ( Amount you want to transfer ) #
  • Then press CALL key.
  • If everything is done right you will receive a notification that credit transfer has been accomplished successfully.
  • Another confirmation message will be sent to the credit receiver to inform him about the new received credit and the sender number.

Other Information

The service is free of charge and available only for prepaid subscribers. The credit sender has to have enough credit in his balance to transfer credit to others. The amount of credit to be transfer is either 5, 10, 15 or 20 Saudi Riyals. You can repeat the credit transfer maximum 5 times in 24 hours, It means maximum amount of transfer per day is 100 SR.

I have already covered a review on HTC Desire in one of my previous posts and also I drawn a comparison on HTC HD2 and HTC Desire smartphones. Nasa Smart Devices is first retailer who have released it.

The device is currently available in 3290 SR which is about 878 US $. This price is very close to other Windows Mobile device from HTC HD2. If we take a look at the specification we'll find both devices very similar, The main difference is OS.

There has been a lot of demand of this device in Saudi Arabia, It is expected to be available at Nasa Shops very soon.

How to make your Nokia phone a wireless access point

In HTC smartphones HTC HD2 was probabally first Smartphone that works as a Wireless access point. Using your 3G connection it enabales you to use Internet on your laptop or desktop PC. HTC HD2 is an expensive phone. To get this facility not everyone can buy HD2. Now it is possible for Nokia S60 (Symbian OS) phones users to turn their Nokia phones into a Wireless access point. It is only possible for Nokia phones that have Wi-Fi hardware buil-in on their motherboards.

Internet connection sharing from GSM/3G/Edge was possible already on many Nokia phones via Bluetooth connections and USB cable connections. But Wireless Tethering really makes a difference.

Just install JoikuSpot Light FREE Hotspot on your Nokia S60 handset. This application is available free and has some limitiations too. It shares your phone's 3G internet connection over WiFi (WLAN) to a single laptop or other WiFi device. The Light version supports basic internet browsing only. However Premium version that  comes in about 7.5 US $ has following additional features.

  • Connection Security
  • Full Internet Protocol
  • Better Performance than free version
  • VPN Support
  • POP3 and IMAP Protocol support for email
  • More Customized Settings
  • Multiple Device connection

This application has great importance as these days so many Gadgets come with Wireless Lan support like Gaming devices, iPhone, iPad, Netbooks and Notebooks. I have tested this application on Nokia E71. I hope it will work on many other Nokia models. Just visit Nokia's OVI store and check if your device supports it or not. Here is the JoikuSpot screenshot.

I have came to know the functionality and importance of this software when last year I visited Pakistan and tried to share Internet connection from my mobile to my laptop. I got Ufone's subscription. I installed Nokia PC Suite in my laptop, connected my Nokia to my pc via USB cable, adjusted Network operator setting and at the end It didn't work. Later on when I called Ufone's customer support it was really shameful that no-one from Ufone customer support could help me to solve this issue. After 2 months vacation when I reached back to Saudi Arabia I found reply email from Ufone that I simply ignored.
