How to back up system information in Windows 7

Every time you install a new program, update Windows or other software, or even just use your computer as it's intended, you run a small risk of corrupting files that are essential to the smooth operation of your machine. This happens rarely, but it can be a major hassle to recover from if you don't back up your system information regularly (or at least before trying anything extra-risky). Windows 7 makes it easy. Here's how:

  1. Open the Control Panel, then click "System and Security," then "System," then "System protection" on the left.

    Step 1: Launch System protection.

  2. A small window should pop up with the System Protection tab highlighted. Click "Create..." near the bottom.

    Step 2: Create restore point.

  3. Enter a label to help you remember which backup is which. Windows should now begin creating your restore point. It takes some time, especially if you've been using your computer for a while and installing lots of programs. After a bit, you should get a message informing you that the procedure competed successfully.
  4. To restore your system, repeat step 1, then click "System Restore..." near the top of the pop-up. You'll be asked to select a restore point, and then Windows will roll you back to that time. This means any changes you made to your system, like installing software or changing settings, will be lost, so be careful!

2011/11/30 Deaf Digest

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, November 30, 2011

– A deaf couple lost money to an evil hearing neighbor

In England, a deaf husband and wife became friends
with Jacqueline Taylor, a hearing neighbor. They asked to
have their mail delivered to her house because their dog
was always tearing up the letters. Instead of bringing
the mail to the deaf couple’s house, Jacqueline opened
the mail herself and took out checks and new credit cards.
With forgery she spent nearly $24,000 on stuff
(vacations, booze, hair styling appointments, etc).
She is now in jail. Said the angry judge:

They trusted you; you were one of the family

– A surprise with the Dallas cheerleader that was
“tackled” by a Dallas Cowboys player?

We know that Melissa Kellerman, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader,
was accidentally tackled by a Cowboys player while on sidelines.
She is a college student, and her minor is Sign Language Studies!
She says she can use sign language, and her goal is to
become a Special Education teacher after she finishes college.

– USA better off than China with captions

We watch movies on TV with captions. We also complain about
Netflix not captioning their videos. But we are lucky to be
Americans. In China, the government gives away 10,000 captioned
videos free for the deaf. But this is a joke. The government
produces 10 to 20 new captioned films per year. In USA, many
of us watch 10 to 20 new captioned films per month!

– A harmless deaf man on bicycle was tased and killed

A 61-year old deaf man in Scotland Neck, NC, a small town of
just 2,000 people, was stopped by a rookie police officer. The
cop saw him falling off his bicycle Suspicious, the cop walked
over to him, and saw the deaf man reaching for something in
his pocket. It was food that he wanted to eat. The cop, panicking,
tased him. After being tased, the deaf man fell down again,
his head hitting the pavement. Taken to the hospital, the
deaf man died. This cop has been placed on administrative
leave while the police department investigates this tragic
incident.

– Shocking incident at World Deaf Indoor Soccer championships!

Last week the World Deaf Indoor Soccer championships took
place in Sweden. The Iranian deaf team defeated the Turkish
deaf team 4-2 in the championship game. During the post-game
ceremony, an angry Turkish fan stabbed an Iranian fan in
the neck, and then escaped. They were taunting each other
throughout this emotional game. And when Iran won, the
Turkish fan lost his temper and pulled out his knife.
At this point, additional details are vague and there
have been no arrest.

NC Alternative Crops and Organics: Federal Financial Assistance Available for Building High Tunnels & Becoming Certified Organic

NC Alternative Crops and Organics: Federal Financial Assistance Available for Building High Tunnels & Becoming Certified Organic

Busy day..

Its been a looong day. I did a lot of shopping today. I left about 1 pm, got back about 4. Had lunch and shopped online. Waited on Scott to get home and got about 10 minutes with him before we were both back in our cars heading in different directions. I took off to Office Max and the dollar store. I got home around 930 and he rolled in about 10. Got 30 minutes with him before he was in the shower and bed. I don't particularly like long days like this. My body is not made for long days. And I miss my husband, but I am thankful I didn't waste my time today. I actually accomplished a lot.

Right now I am uploading a video that will be up before this post.. I will add a link at the bottom of this one too. If you are going to be making any of the homemade gifts I have been talking about, then you will probably want to watch it!! It will help if you want to follow along! I bought for a lot today.. Just do what you are comfortable with! The biggest expense, is the containers..and that's not much, so find nice ones!

While I was buying this jars I was in the glasses isle, and  I ended up..

buying some new glasses. Scott had been complaining that a lot of the glasses were chipped and he has been just throwing them away.. it didn't bother me.. I either use a coffee up or a plastic throw away cup. I like plastic but Scott likes glass. So does my mom. Since she is coming, I thought it would be the perfect time to get some more!

And guess who loved the boxes!!

The boys!

Mr. Ferdinand

Swagger

I love his look here

Playtime!

He's so freaking cute! It looks big here but hes not that big!

I think he looks like his daddy in so many ways.

I love these little guys. Gosh.. how blessed am I to have been able to have such a great litter of kittens.

Beautiful... Absolutely  Beautiful

Here is the things I got for any of you who couldn't watch the video.. Here is a very fast rundown of it all.

Little 10oz jars for the sugar scrub for $ 2.00 each at Walmart. These were in the kitchen gadgets isle.

Half pint mason jars for spiced salts and mixes, found at Walmart for $3.95. Found in canning isle.

Big Mason Jars $ 1.00 each and I got these at that price because the box was tore up and one was broken. Might be a few $ more if you have to buy the box. I think it's $ 10.00. Found in canning isle.

Tins for cookies found at Walmart for $ 3.00 each. These were back in the garden center that has been converted to the Christmas area.

More little plastic jar found at Every thing's a dollar.. Probably use for more sugar scrubs.

Also got this plastic canister to see if a muffin mix will fit in it.. and if it does, I will get more.

Cute Christmas coffee cups $ 1.00 at Every thing's a Dollar for cake in a mug.

In the video I also talked about our Christmas cards for this year..

Here is what we are doing..

I found these at the photo counter at Walgreens for $ 5.99 - 12 cards -

I am adding the Christmas tree picture of Scott and I to the front.. With Walgreens right now, on Tuesday you can get 4 x 6 prints for $ .10 a piece!! So by Tuesday these will all be done and in the mail on Wednesday!

I wanted to make these extra special so I went to Office Max and had a picture " rounded ", printed on sticker paper.. which took about 30 minutes.. and look what I got!!

Ha!! My beautiful Giovanni!!

I also got this Fiskars Circle cutter..

And here is the inside the card!!

Ohhh.. and those sheets were $ 2.00 for 6 sheets.. The circle cutter was $ 10.00 and now I have the card I want!! Well, when I get our picture in it, I will!!

Got some ribbon from Walmart and Every thing's a Dollar..

both places it was only $1.00.. I got 6.. and will need more.

I also picked up 10 of these bags at .75 each for the sugar scrubs. You use tissue paper too if you want to do it cheaper but you also don't have to wrap them.. A pretty bow will do it!

Also I ordered the wood scoops that I am attaching to the sugar scrub jars HERE. They were $ 7.95 for 10. Great deal! Tie them on with a pretty ribbon and its a great gift!

Here's the video link..

Have a a great Thursday. I have to get to bed.. I am having a lady over to check out the kittens tomorrow so I have to pick the house and get them ready! I love them and breeding and raising cats is amazing.. I get sad to see them go. I think this might just be the right house for Ferdinand. Its an older couple with no kids.. just cats. He needs a very low impact, quiet, easy going house. He is who I am worried about most. He is starting to become more confident but one set back could take months to over come. I walked in today and scared him and he ran straight under the couch! So I got him out and let him he was safe. So we will see how tomorrow goes. I turned down 4 people today on him. They had young children and I just don't feel that's the right home for him. I know many of you are reading this blog from the ad and I am sorry if I said no to you. I don't mean to offend or hurt anyone. But I know his personality better than anyone else and you wouldn't like it either. He would hide all the time. I am sure a child wouldn't like that either. All my kittens were extremely out going but he is different. He was the biggest but he was scared of his own shadow. Scott and I have worked with him as much as possible could and like I said.. he is JUST starting to become a little more confident. I am just thinking of what's best for him and also what's best for you family too. Hope you understand. Also if any of you guys like the blog, hang around!! I don't allow comments but you can always shoot me an email to

Talk to you guys tomorrow..

Sweet Dreams

Back Home.. [ also SUGAR SCRUB NOTES ]

Just saying hi!! I am finally home, done with running at I have only been here about an hour.. long enough to unpack the car, eat, and spend about 30 minutes with husby. He had that auction he had to go to so he could buy and sell more cars. I hate that he is having to do this now. But I am sure he is better at it that the dumbass who got fired. Sorry.. but that's the truth..

Anyway, I have a house full of stuff waiting for me to get it done. I will have probably a big post up before I head to bed..but it will be late. I also have a busy night cleaning wise along with tomorrow because w have a lady coming to check out Ferdinand. He is such a doll baby and I want the right family for him. I will hold out till I get it. I don't want him in a really busy house. I know his shy temperament needs to over came in the right environment. I mean, I have been around since day 1 and his just starting to really come out of his shell.. In fact, right now he is running full speed around here with his brother. It makes me smile how far he has came. He is the shy one. No others were shy.. but that big guy is!

I got a ton of supplies for the homemade gifts. I am going to go ahead and post it tonight because I want you all to be able to kinda follow along if you want. I also want you to know where I got them and what website I ordered some stuff off too. I think if you are making the sugar scrubs you need to order these. You won't have to.. and in fact, I will give you a few ideas of what to do instead if you can't order them. But they will make it look so cute! Another thing I wanted to make clear is that homemade does not mean free. While it doesn't cost much, there is an expense to it. I don't mind paying a little extra on a nice jar and ribbons because by time you are ton you are going to have a very nice looking gift for around $ 5 each. And they really are well worth more than that.. You'll see.. Don't just make them for others, try it out yourself before you ever bottle it up. Sugar scrubs tend to be a little slippery.. that's every sugar scrub. I use them all the time and in winter the oil really helps make dry skin soft and moisturized. Like I said, I will go through everything tonight with you guys..

But right now, I have to start putting things away and cleaning up a bit.

Ohhhh.. I forgot, to tell you I found a great deal on Christmas cards. More info about that tonight too. Scott is helping this year with ours! I will have them out in the mail on Tuesday!

Time to get motivated.. be back in the wee hours!

xoxo

Hewlett-Packard to Decide webOS Fate by Mid-December

Hewlett-Packard's new woman in charge, Meg Whitman, told a French newspaper that it's no easy task deciding what to do with HP's webOS division, but that a decision would be made one way or the other within the next two weeks. Part of what makes the decision so difficult is that there's a team of 600 people working with webOS at HP.

AllThingsD dug up the interview, which has been translated in full via Google Translate here. Whitman touched on a number of topics, including what prompted HP to reverse course and keep its PC business. According to Whitman, it would have cost HP $1 billion to sever its PC arm. On top of that, "the impact on our revenues would have been too high." And finally, Whitman said "the HP brand is indisputably linked to our PC."

Back to the topic of webOS and tablets, Whitman promises to a return to the tablet market with a Windows 8 slate in 2012. She also said that tablets are not yet comparable to PCs primarily because tablets are "mainly used to consume media and emails," and are poor substitutes for productivity chores.

HOMEMADE SUAGR SCRUB RECIPES AND PACKAGING IDEAS!!

As I have already told you guys, I am making some homemade gifts this year. The first of gifts, I want to share with you guys is these wonderful sugar scrubs. I have made some of these and compared them to my bath and body sugar scrubs and I promise you.. mine are just as good..

So first off the recipes and then you will see a bunch of pictures on how to package them for gifts. They are not my pictures but inspiration!
Now you can switch these up with any kind of essential oil that you want.. I think a cute is a candy cane sugar scrub and all you would do to make it is use any of the recipes below.. but I think the white sugar scrub would work best for this and add some peppermint essential oils..

Simple stuff!

Very simple first recipe..

white sugar

brown sugar

Olive Oil

Vanilla

Equal parts of sugar, mix together,

add enough olive oil to the consistency you like

and 1 capful

of vanilla

mix well

Put in a jar with a lid and enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------

1 cup pure cane sugar

1 cup vegetable oil

Oil from one vitamin E capsule

1-2 drops essential oil (e.g., lavender, orange, lemon)

1 16oz. glass container with a lid

Combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl until well blended. Using a spatula, transfer the mix into the container and secure the lid. Contents will settle, mix before using. Scoop a teaspoon or two of the scrub onto your hands/feet/elbows and gently massage in circular motions onto your skin. The scrub will tighten on your skin. Leave on for 3-4 minutes before thoroughly rinsing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exact same recipe as above but with granulated sugar..

White Cane Glimmer Sugar Scrub

White Cane Glimmer Sugar Scrub1 cup - Granulated Sugar

1 cup - vegetable oil

Oil from 1 vitamin E capsule

1 or 2 drops - of essential oil, lavender or orange

1 16oz. - glass container with lid
Combine all of the ingredients in a medium bowl until well blended. Using a spatula, transfer mix into the container and secure lid. Contents will settle, mix before using. Scoop a teaspoon or two of the scrub on your hands and gently massage in circular motions onto your skin. Leave on for 3 to 4 minutes before thoroughly rinsing. The scrub will tighten on your skin.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brown Sugar Body Scrub Recipes

Brown Sugar Body ScrubWe know the perfect way to relax after a long day of baking! Try this luxurious homemade spa treatment using a delicious aromatic blend of Dark or Light Brown Sugar, moisturizing oils and fresh fragrances. You can also create this homemade sugar scrub, as a thoughtful, low-cost gift that will make your friends feel a little sweeter!

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

1/2 cup ground almonds

1/2 cup ground oatmeal

1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar, packed

1/4 cup almond oil

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Small containers with lids

Combine all ingredients using a spatula in a large bowl until well blended. Mix should have a paste-like texture. If it is too dry, add more oil a few drops at a time. Conversely, if it is too oily, add more dry ingredients until you reach the desired consistency. Keep stored in tightly sealed jars. May need to mix before use if ingredients settle.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sweet N’ Spicy Brown Sugar Scrub

1 cup - Dark or Light Brown Sugar

1 cup -Granulated Sugar

¾ cup - almond oil

2 tsp. - ground cinnamon

2 tsp. - ground ginger

2 tsp. - ground nutmeg

1 16 oz. - glass container with lid

Cinnamon sticks, optional

In a medium-sized bowl, combine all ingredients until thoroughly blended. Be sure to break up any lumps from the brown sugar or from the spices. Spoon into the glass container and secure with lid. Scoop a teaspoon or two of the scrub on your hands and gently massage in circular motions onto your skin. Leave on for 3 to 4 minutes before thoroughly rinsing. The scrub will tighten on your skin.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Honey Almond Sleepy Sugar Scrub:

Mix about 3 parts white sugar and 1 part honey.
2 Tablespoons tea (I brewed an extra strong cup of Sleepy Time tea)
1 Teaspoon almond extract. You could also use an essential oil here instead.
The consistency: Not oily runny everywhere, like the honey won’t mix all the way in.
Not breaking apart and lumpy like there is too much sugar:)
------------------------------------------

Vanilla Almond Brown Sugar Scrub:
Mix about 3 parts brown sugar and 2 parts olive oil
2 packets instant oatmeal (or about 1 cup oats)
Handful of almonds
1 teaspoon almond extract or an essential oil
Mix all in a food processor, or beat a bunch with a spoon (and chop the almonds)
This consistency will be more grainy , but should still have a little movement in it.
You really can’t mess this up…if in doubt, use it yourself and see if your hands feel too oily afterwards.
If so, add more oats or sugar…

--------------------------------------------------------

Application:

Gently apply to wet skin in a circular motion, concentrating on dry patches and rough areas of your skin. Avoid using the scrub on sensitive areas, in cuts or on skin that is irritated or sunburned. Sugar scrubs are also not recommended for the face. Thoroughly rinse with warm water.

Caution: the oil in the sugar scrub can cause the tub to become slippery.

Have fun creating your own signature body scrub by experimenting with various scents from essential oils like grapefruit, lavender or peppermint, found in specialty markets or crafts stores. If you add any natural fruit or dairy products to your scrub, we recommend you refrigerate for up to two weeks.

Tips:

A little goes a long way with the sugar body scrub when giving as gifts. Use small mason jars or washed out baby food jars as containers. Decorate the lids buy cutting out fabric scraps in a circle shape about 2 inches larger than the lid. Glue the fabric to the lid, then tie a pretty coordinating ribbon, gathering the fabric, around the neck of the jar. Be sure to include a small tag with the application instructions and don’t forget to let the recipient know that you were the one sweet enough to make these for them!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tag Idea..

Contains: white & brown sugars; vitamin E, almond and orange oils. Directions: Scoop a teaspoon or two of the scrub on your hands and gently massage in circular motions onto your skin

$1.2 Million Grant at RIT/NTID Will Help Train Teachers of the Deaf

NTID’s Master of Science program in Secondary Education (MSSE) has received a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help recruit and train teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing.

Much of the grant, over five years, will be used for scholarships to support students studying to become teachers of the deaf with a focus in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). In addition, prospective teachers of the deaf who are African-American, Latin American, Native American and Asian American will be supported in an attempt to offset the national shortage of teachers with diverse backgrounds who are qualified to teach deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

“The United States faces a critical shortage of teachers qualifies to teach in STEM disciplines,” says NTID President Gerry Buckley. “The shortage of STEM teamers who are qualified to teach deaf and hard-of-hearing students is particularly pronounced. As a leader in technological education and in preparing teachers of the deaf, NTID is well positioned to help address this significant national need.”

Tuition assistance may be provided by the grant for up to 20 STEM students and 30 other students (including social studies, English, and American Sign Language) per year, a recruitment and training goal that addresses the identified national shortages, says MSSE Director Gerry Bateman, who authored the grant with faculty members Chris Kurz, Susan Lane-Outlaw and Harry Lang.

“This grant makes it possible to recruit and support the most competent students in their respective content areas,” Bateman says. “These future graduates will join the cadre of MSSE alumni who are highly qualified and caring teachers of deaf and hard-of-hearing students throughout the United States.”

About 250 students, a mix of deaf, hard of hearing and hearing, have graduated from the MSSE program since it began accepting students in 1995.

The program is one of the few dual-certification (deaf education plus content area expertise) programs at the secondary level of education in the United States. The employment rate for graduates range from 90 to 100 percent within a year of graduation, Bateman says.

Tuition assistance may be available for qualified students starting in September 2012. For more information, visit: www.ntid.rit.edu/msse.
