Apple will be using LCD panels from Sharp, Inc. for its iPad 3, according to The Wall Street Journal. In addition, the company is said to be providing the LCD panels for the sixth-generation iPhone as well. Both Apple products are expected in 2012.

According to The Journal, the so-called “iPad 3” will arrive early next year and include a Retina Display and faster processor.

The person also said Apple is also investing in facilities at Sharp’s panel manufacturing factories in Japan, without specifying the amount being invested, highlighting Apple’s plans to work with multiple component makers to ensure that it can secure enough parts to make its popular iPhones and iPads. Osaka-based Sharp makes liquid crystal displays, which are widely used in tablets, smartphones and flat-screen televisions. The company will be supplying panels for the next iPhone, which is also expected to launch sometime next year, the person added.

Say Hello To Buffy, The Facebook Phone / Read Entire Article

Facebook, the social networking gorilla, could unveil its first smartphone powered by a modified version of Android, according to a special first-in-a-series report by All Things Digital. Code-named “Buffy,” after the TV character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, the new handset could arrive within 12-18 months.

Long-rumored, Facebook’s entry into the ever-changing smartphone market now seems confirmed. In fact, the company recently is said to have signed HTC to build its first handset, although Samsung could also become a partner as well.

According to the report, Facebook’s handset will be deeply integrated into its current services and support HTML5 as a platform for apps.

On Second Thought, Apple Doesn’t Expand Subscription Service To Games / Read Entire Article

Less than a day after Big Fish claimed Apple had allowed them to start charging a subscription fee for their iPad games, Apple has removed the service from the App Store. Available since November 18, the now-defunct plan would have done to games what Netflix does for movies and TV shows, allow people to rent them for a monthly subscription fee, according to Bloomberg News.

According to Paul Thelen, founder of Big Fish:

“We were notified that the app was removed. We’re trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened. It was officially approved.”

Most surprisingly, Thelen claims that his company worked with Apple for “several weeks to ensure that it met the requirements for recurring monthly charges made through the App Store.”

According to the graph included below, Flickr fans are using iPhone 3G handsets less and less, while use of the iPhone 4 remains high and interest in the iPhone 4S is growing.

Sincerely Ink Streamlines Your Holiday Card Process / Read Entire Article

Holiday Cards by Sincerely Ink: Christmas, New Year & Hanukkah cards too! (Free) by Sincerely Inc. is how I’m doing my holiday cards this year. If you’re not into sending holiday cards every December, you may think this whole article is nuts, but for me, it’s a necessary chore that technology has managed to make a little easier each year. Growing up, my mom used to hand-write 100 or more holiday cards, including a photo and a few paragraphs about what we were all up to. I can’t even imagine doing that. By the time I started sending out my own, these paragraphs had at least evolved into a type-written and xeroxed “newsletter”. Still, the process of finding/buying/signing cards, taking and enclosing a family photo, typing/printing/folding/stuffing the newsletter, writing out the addresses on the envelopes, sealing, and stamping was not exactly a breeze. The advent of printable mailing labels and photo cards helped, but it’s still been quite a bit of work every year. I truly love to get them, but you’ve got to send them to receive them! Of course I know I could easily just send my greetings online, but that just doesn’t feel right to me.

But apps are making our lives easier, and this year, I’m using this app to create all of my holiday cards. Sincerely Ink lets you streamline the entire process without having to even handle the cards. I suppose I’ll never even see one until I visit a recipient who has it on display. There are plenty of apps that let you send postcards, however, two things set Sincerely Ink apart. First off, the postcards it sends are 5×7, which is a nice big size for a holiday card. Secondly, and more importantly, you can go to Sincerely Ink’s website and import your address book! If you’re sending a lot of holiday cards, this is an enormous help. Apple’s own Cards app lets you create beautiful cards (in envelopes, so it’s a bit pricier as well) but does not allow you to import addresses en masse.
