Maeda-en GREEN TEA REVIEW!!

Tonight I am going to be talking about this tea that I received in the mail from one of my good friends. Before I get into this tea review, I want to talk for a moment about her and our unique friendship. One day, I received an email her stating she was a reader on the blog and just wanted to tell me how much she liked it. From that email, many months ago, we have made a friendship like none other. We both feel we can talk to each other about anything and we do! She is a stay at home wife as I am. It's just her and her husband and cat that lives in the house. She lives on one side of the United States and I live on the other side. She is Japanese American and one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I wish I could put up her wedding pictures because she is just stunning. If you hear me talking about Danielle, you know now who I am talking about!

One day, we got on the topics of tea. I was explaining that I really couldn't find a green tea that I was happy with. So a few weeks later, she sent me a package with all kinds of teas. If you didn't see the post about it you can click [ HERE ] to see all the tea's she included.. And yes, there will be reviews on all of them!

But tonight I am going to talk about this one.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The initial steaming step imparts a difference in the flavor between Chinese and Japanese green tea, with Japanese green tea having a more vegetal, almost grassy flavor (some taste seaweed-like flavors). Infusions from sencha and other green teas that are steamed (like most common Japanese green teas) are also greener in color and slightly more bitter than Chinese-style green teas.

Sencha is very popular in Japan, and is drunk hot in the cooler months and usually chilled in the summer months.

INGREDIENTS:

100% natural green tea leaves

BREWING DIRECTIONS:

Steep 1 bag in 8oz warm water for 2-3 minutes or until desired strength is achieved.

This bag contained 100 individual wrapped tea bags

As you can see it's 100% Natural Green Tea Leaves

Ok.. I went on brewed me up a cup

For me, the leaves seem to be so small that they come out the bag a little but to me its not a big deal at all. I drink loose teas all the time and what's fun is trying to read the tea leaves! { Maybe I will do a post on that sometime soon! }

As you can see, this is a tea that is a translucent jade green, which is a quality much loved by the Japanese. I didn't know this on my own. I did a lot of research on this tea after it came in. I remember Danielle telling me this is the only green tea that her grandmother likes.

For me this tea is mildy sweet, with an almost nutty, butter flavor. There is a little bitterness and it does have the " grassy" green tea taste as most do but this by far is one of the best green tea's I have EVER had. The after taste is faint but sweet and for me, I have to add sugar or honey to it. If I remember right, Danielle said she prefers honey in hers. I have tried both honey and sugar and its really a matter of preference. I like sugar better but I am trying to do the honey more because its better for you.

I had not tried any teas from this company and I am so happy she sent it!!  I give this tea thumbs up and even husby likes it. You can make it hot or cold. I prefer hot but he prefers cold! Opposites attract huh!?

Anyway, Thank you so much Danielle for opening my eyes up to a GREAT GREEN TEA!!!
