We know what you're thinking -- cyberspace needs another social network like, well, cyberspace needs another social network. No further example is necessary, and some would say it's tough enough trying to juggle Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, and even LinkedIn (for the more business oriented folk). Is there room for Microsoft to add yet another social portal?
The Redmond software giant is hellbent on finding out. Microsoft is working on a social network of its own caled Socl. Socl.com was actually mistakenly published to the Web last summer, and according to The Inquirer, what little was there was an "amateurish, ugly affair."
Not anymore. Microsoft has been testing its social network with a select group, and a bunch of screenshots have shown up over at The Verge, along with detailed information about the site. From the screen grabs, Socl looks a lot like Google Plus and shares many of the same features.
According to The Verge, Socl is a research project, so whether it looks a little too much like Google Plus or not could end up being irrelevant. That said, Microsoft's at least planning to test it publicly, which would indicate there's definitely interest in taking Socl to the mainstream.
